Happy Summer, everyone! Although it feels like something is ending, the marching season is on the verge of commencing. As the students shake off the cobwebs and enter training mode, we need to make sure we take care of our checklists so the marching season can run smoothly. This handout will summarize some important events and items that are on the horizon. As always, you can refer back to the website for reminders.
During rehearsal, members need to make sure their hair is up and away from the face – no hair hanging loose, no bangs, etc. The leadership team will be monitoring this and will have items just in case.
Members need to wear the appropriate undergarments at rehearsal and performance – no regular, every-day bras, tights under shorts when necessary (always under rehearsal uniform, always under shorts in winter guard season), body tights, appropriate underwear and bra under costume (details on where to buy are on the website), etc. Proper garments under the costume are vital – please make sure you take care of this so we all look the same!
As band camp approaches, please ensure you have a water jug big enough to last through the entire day. Hydration is the number one supplier of energy – don’t fall out of the pack.
Registration for band camp is upcoming. Please make sure you plan to attend either Saturday July 24 or Saturday July 31 from 9am-12noon in the band room. At this point in time, you will take care of many items relating to marching band color guard and winter guard. This is also the time to pay fees or make a payment plan with the Booster Club Treasurer. Some of the items you need to take care of at registration are:
Marching band fees: Must be paid at this time. If you cannot pay the full amount, make a payment plan with the Treasurer.
Sabre rental $25. This does not apply to everyone – ask if you are not sure.
Rehearsal uniform: $TBA and this does not apply to everyone. It is required to purchase. If you are a vet and are missing a piece, please let us know so we can order you a new one.
Shoes: $30 and this is for everyone. We are buying black shoes for the costume this year.
Booster Club Membership: New parents and returning parents that are not already members of the Booster Club need to sign up and be involved in your member’s commitment to the Rebel Regiment and Guard Program.
Fill out forms: health forms, medical forms, etc all are completed at this time. Your child cannot attend band camp without completing the required forms.
We have new member jackets and pants for the color guard program! If you choose, you can pay for your member jacket at registration, but we will be making a second order after marching season. We are also planning on holding several fundraisers to offset the cost of the pants. Members will be required to purchase a jacket and pants to wear as warmups.
Saturday July 31 is also notable because the Color Guard is taking their annual trip to the Drum Corps International regional in Atlanta, GA. We are not sure the cost of tickets at this moment. We will need the money in by Friday, July 16th. We will have an itinerary at that time as well. This is an all-day event – students will need money for lunch, dinner, shopping time at the Mall of Georgia and for any souvenirs they wish to purchase at the show. We will take a Rebel Regiment bus down to the Georgia Dome.
Gloves are available from Mr. Moss for $12. Gloves are required for practice and performance in the Rebel Regiment Color Guard .
Two items that you are responsible for ordering on your own: A flag bag and a rifle. Flag bags are urgent – EACH student must have a personal flag bag by the time BAND CAMP starts. Rifles need to be ordered as soon as possible. Ordering information is available on the website.
As guard camp and the two weeks of band camp grow closer, make sure you are spending time outdoors in the heat during your off time. Any extra work you do will make the physical challenge of band camp easier. Make sure you are eating healthy foods and drinking lots of non-soda beverages. Hydration occurs the day before you need it, so don’t wait until Monday to drink water and/or Gatorade. You have to start on Sunday. Also, plan to wear light colored clothes for outside rehearsal and bring layers to transition between the different temperatures of the day. Tennis shoes are a must, especially for marching and spinning – make sure your shoes are halfway decent shape.
