Chris Moss is currently the assistant band director at
James F. Byrnes High School where he serves as color guard caption
supervisor and the director of the District Five Winter Guard Program.
Chris holds a Bachelors of Music Education Degree from the Florida State
University.
Mr. Moss marched two years as a Euphonium with the
Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps and a year with both Paradigm Winter Guard
in the Independent A class and Northeast Independent Winter Guard in
Independent World Class. He has served as the color guard director
at Byrnes for three years and during that time, the winter guard program
has grown to four ensembles that regularly compete as part of the
Carolina Indoor Performance Association. In addition, the Byrnes varsity
winter guard, "Indigo," competes with Winter Guard International and is
regularly a Scholastic A Regional Finalist.
Mr. Moss also has served as a member of the brass
staff at Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and two years on the
brass staff of the 2005 Drum Corps International World Champion and High
Brass Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps.
Jen Barton, director
Jen is currently the co-director for the Byrnes Guard Program where she choreographs and designs for all the color guards. She works on visual design for the marching band and designs flags, costumes, soundtracks and many other design aspects for the winter guards.

Jen also has her music education degree from Florida State University where she studied flute with Stephanie Jutt and Eva Amsler. She participated in Marching Chiefs, Concert and Symphonic Bands, Harmonie Chamber Ensemble, Tau Beta Sigma, Golden Key and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies. She has been teaching color guard for 8 years in total with 5 years at Byrnes HS. She has also been on staff for the WGI Independent A medalist The Cast Winter Guard from Upstate, SC and WGI Independent Open Finalist Etude Winter Guard from Fort Mill, SC. She recently was on staff for the East Coweta HS Winter Guard and has been a technician and clinician for numerous winter and color guards in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.
Phillip Rainer, visual designer
Phillip Rainer is a science teacher at Fort Mill HS where he also directs the Fort Mill Area Winter Guard and Etude Winter Guard. He is a sought-after drill designer and visual designer in the Southeast and beyond. Mr. Rainer has been assisting the Byrnes Guard for two years now and we love having him around!
